Frontier Airlines has come out with the latest ploy to attract customers who have historically chosen to fly Southwest Airlines.
This week, Denver-based Ultra Low Cost Carrier announced some kind of extraordinary status match… In fact, “status opportunity” might be the right term.
Between now and April 30th Southwest Rapid Rewards Members can earn money quickly Frontier Mile Elite Gold Status for the rest of 2025. The only catch? It costs $40.

How to get Frontier Elite Status
To earn Elite Gold Status on the Frontier Mile as part of this status opportunity, you must visit frontier.getstatus.com by April 30th.
The landing page will ask you to add the email address and number associated with your Frontier Miles account. You obviously need one of them to gain elite status in your program.
You will also need to enter the South West Rapid reward number, but again, this is not a traditional “status match” so anyone with numbers can apply.
On the next page you will be asked to pay a one-off, non-refundable fee of $40.
If you do that, Frontier says your loyalty account will be upgraded to Elite Gold within 24 hours. Your status will be effective until December 31st.
What do you get with Frontier Elite Gold Status?
Frontier’s Elite Gold Status is the second rung in the four-tier status ladder (trailing elite platinum and elite diamond).
Typically, you will need 20,000 elite qualification points to qualify.
The advantages are:
- Ability to score 14 points per dollar
- There are no changes or cancellation fees
- Free carry-on bag (not for primary members, not for travel companions)
- Standard seat selection at booking, Outside Regoom (“Premium”) Seats Check-in and Access seats will be available within 4 hours of departure for airline front and product (with guaranteed empty middle seats) (not for travel companions, for major members)
Another perk that airlines say is coming later this year is the free upgrade (pending availability) of the brand new first-class recliner that will begin to appear in the two rows of the front of the new plane.
