As part of La Trobe University’s Digital Innovation Hub, Cisco Innovation Central Melbourne has set out to define digital literacy in healthcare. With this initiative, Cisco and La Trobe University have explored how healthcare workers become digitally driven, how data and technology generate valuable insights, increase clinical efficiencies, and increase value from patient knowledge.
Digital literacy uses technology and tools to lead to more efficient use of staff, better coordination of care, improved patient experiences, and improved enterprise performance for key performance indicators (KPIs).
The whole picture isn’t just technology. Digital culture also focuses on social and cultural issues, communication and collaboration.
The possibilities of digital culture in healthcare
This diagram illustrates a bespoke group of knowledge domains needed to establish a digital culture and create patient value from data and insights. Considered a holistic approach, the combination of knowledge domains, key technologies, and core learning goals becomes a requirement for practical learning, digital and data literacy.
By coordinating learning content for workers and leadership at different levels, this map can be learned at all levels and by executives with the workforce.
Implement digital culture within your workforce
One consistent theme we have recognized through this initiative is that implementing services for digital devices and data can be a challenge for healthcare organizations.
One of the most costly and dynamic challenges for healthcare institutions looking to promote digital culture in the workplace is managing people and their devices. When are there five things to consider Operation Optimization Focusing on digital:
- Latency and duration of stay increases when staff and patient data cannot be placed quickly and accurately
- Situational awareness is an important feature of the Real-Time Health System (RTHS), and this is one of the goals to create a digital culture
- Devices are the foundation of RTHS efficiency
- Integrating technology and data with existing systems and workflows is complex, expensive and challenging, and often overlooked in transforming data into insights.
- Continuous improvement is needed Project-Portfolio Management and collaborative groups
To create a true digital culture within healthcare professionals, you need to consider the following methods:
- Create value within a specific organizational initiative by identifying use cases in which devices and data improve workflows and decision-making
- Avoid interoperability challenges between data sources and locations by addressing potential gaps
- Recognise and address sensitive issues related to people and devices, such as privacy concerns.
