President Donald Trump confirmed late Thursday that he had appointed Fox News host Janine Piro as interim US lawyer for the District of Columbia.
“Janine is very suited to this position and is considered one of the top district attorneys in New York State history. True socially said.
“She’s in class alone. Congratulations!”
NBC News Previously reported, Trump had been heavily considering Pillo about his position as an overseeing criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits in the federal district of Washington, D.C.
Piro is a former district attorney in Westchester County, New York.
She is also a solid supporter of Trump, who allowed her ex-husband, Al Piro, in the final hours of Trump’s first term in the White House due to his tax evasion beliefs.
“Jeanine Pirro has been an incredible addition to “The Five” over the past three years, and has been a long-time beloved host of Fox News Media, and has contributed significantly to our success throughout his 14-year tenure,” a Fox News spokesperson said in a statement. “We hope she will be the best in her new role in Washington.”
Trump said Thursday he dropped Martin’s nomination, which sparked criticism of the January 6th defense of Capitol riot defendants, facing a strong possibility that the Senate would not confirm him.
“Ed Martin has done a great job as an interim US lawyer and will move to the Justice Department as the new director of the Weaponization Working Group, as deputy deputy attorney general and pardon lawyer,” Trump said in another social media post later Thursday.
“In these very important roles, Ed will ultimately investigate the weaponization of government under the Biden administration and ensure that it provides the victims with the justice they need,” Trump wrote.
Sen. Tom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, said he would not support him on Tuesday. MartinNominations deal with what appears to be the final blow to a chance of winning confirmation.
Tillis cited Martin’s support for the Capitol riot defendants.
“He was a great guy and he didn’t get any support,” Trump said at the White House as he said he had abandoned Martin’s nomination.
“I have to be straight. I’m disappointed,” the president said.
“A lot of people were disappointed, but that’s how it works. Sometimes it’s the way it works. And although he wasn’t rejected, we found it very difficult.”
“If Jeanine Pirro is appointed, I would like to meet with her and understand her priorities,” DC Shadow Senator Ankit Jain said in a statement.
“However, in order to support her, Pillo must make it clear that she knows how to work and focuses on fighting violent crime. Like Ed Martin, she is concerned about prosecuting the president’s enemy and whitewashing the relentless lies about the events of January 6th and the election outcome that sparked it.”
