The Ryder Cup is perhaps golf’s most iconic tournament, along with the four major tournaments held each year.
The biennial competition pits Team Europe against the United States and features 24 athletes competing in a variety of formats.
In 2023, the world’s best golfers will take part in the event, which opens on Friday, September 29, at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club outside of Rome, Italy.
But like other tournaments, will players receive prize money for winning the Ryder Cup? Sporting News has all the information.

ryder cup prize money
The Ryder Cup is one of the most famous competitions in the sport, but golfers who play in the tournament receive no prize money.
That’s right, $0. Even if the team wins.
However, this doesn’t tell the whole story, as players are being compensated in other ways.
According to reports, the PGA will give each Team America member $200,000 to donate to a charity of their choice. Half of that amount will be donated to organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship and the PGA Junior League.
For European teams, it is tradition for the captain to present each player with a participation award. For example, when Europe won the tournament in France in 2018, captain Thomas Bjorn bought personalized Rolexes for each of the team.
It remains to be seen whether 2023 captain Luke Donald will continue the tradition this time around.
