HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Passengers on a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Kauai witnessed a mid-air fist fight Monday.
Southwest officials said two passengers became confused on board Flight 1288 from Oakland to Lihue.
Witnesses told Hawaii News Now the fight occurred about an hour after the plane departed from Oakland.
instagram videos Passengers and crew members can be seen physically trying to get between the two men to calm them down.
Witnesses said both men were detained after the plane landed, but it was unclear how the altercation started.
The passenger said he was surprised that Southwest Airlines did not turn the plane around and continued flying to Kauai.
He added that he witnessed a punch being thrown and saw some blood.
It is unclear whether charges have been filed against either man.
South West officials said in a statement: “We commend our crew and customers for their professionalism in diffusing this situation.”
“The plane landed safely at its scheduled destination and was met by local authorities upon arrival.”
