new york – long island railroad Riders faced major service disruptions during the morning commute in Brooklyn and Queens.
Eastbound service was suspended between Jamaica Station and Atlantic Terminal for several hours due to a downed power line.
Shortly before 8:45 a.m., the MTA announced that service in both directions had been restored.

Power lines fell along railroad tracks near East New York, Brooklyn, officials said.
The Babylon, Montauk, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches were all affected.
CBS New York’s Christina Huang spoke to commuters looking for alternative routes.
“Due to the chaos today, what I’m going to do is, since I’m here on Jamaica Avenue, I’m going to take the train to Penn Station and then go from Penn Station.”I’m going to take the local train back to Wall Street. ” said rider Lexeia Johnson. “So I texted my boss to let him know I’d be late.”
Commuters heading to Penn Station were advised to take the number 2 or 3 train, and those going to Grand Central were advised to take the number 4 or 5 train.
