Residents and community members gathered Tuesday morning at the Loews Arlington Hotel and Convention Center along the Nolan Ryan Expressway to celebrate the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Various city officials gathered to speak, including Neil Liebman, director of business operations and chief operating officer for the Texas Rangers.
“In my opinion, this hotel is the crown jewel of the Arlington area,” Liebman said.
According to the hotel’s website, the building will bring five new and distinct dining experiences and is considered a full-service conference and resort destination.
The hotel also features 888 guest rooms, 266,000 square feet of event space, a fitness center, spa, salon, two pools with “real” sand, and a waterslide.
This is the second installation that Loews Hotels has brought to the city’s entertainment district, with Live by Loews – Arlington being the first.
Mayor Jim Ross was also in attendance and said the hotel, along with the stadium and upcoming museum, is one of many developments in the city’s efforts to differentiate itself.
“If you can’t get excited about what’s going on here, I don’t know what the hell will.” Ross said. “We couldn’t have done this unless we did it together, and at Arlington, we believe we’re better when we do it together.”
After thanking the team that made the building’s construction possible, Ross introduced Loews Hotels CEO Johassan Tisch.
Tisch gave an emotional speech, mentioning his family and generations before him, expressing gratitude and praising Arrington.
“Thank you for joining us in this vision. We are very fortunate to be part of a very bright future for Arlington, Texas,” he said.
After his speech, Mr. Tisch began a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially marking the opening of the hotel. Reservations for the evening have already been completed and next week is already sold out.
“We’re not done yet. We’re not done building this entertainment district and we’re not done building Arlington,” Ross said. “It’s still a long way off.”
