Like thousands of Los Angeles County residents, the wildfires broke the hearts of John Stamos and his wife, Caitlin McHugh Stamos.
“Extra’s” Billy Bush spoke to the couple, who were not physically together as Caitlin was on the ground assisting with immediate relief efforts. civic soul organizationa nonprofit she founded that targets communities in crisis.
John said, “I’m getting ready to watch over my son while my wife saves the world!”
The cause is very personal, as Caitlin grew up in Altadena, which was devastated by the Eaton Fire.
John commented: I said, “Caitlin, I think it was Altadena, there was a fire, and she…jumped out, left us, went straight to her hometown, went into the church, and said, ‘How can I help?’ And we said, “Yes, we said.” I haven’t seen her since. ”
“I felt like I needed to come back here and spend as much time as possible here,” Caitlin explained from the distribution center.
The devastation of the fire destroyed much of Caitlin’s beloved hometown. More than 14,000 acres were burned, more than 9,000 buildings were completely destroyed, and at least 17 residents were killed.
He added: “Now is the time for emergency assistance, right? And we’re entering a phase where people are living in long-term temporary housing, and we can focus more on rebuilding, and current landowners will become homeowners again. You will be able to focus on things like this.”
Caitlin emphasized: “What I really want to emphasize is that we want Altadena to remain a quaint, beautiful, small, diverse town, even if many of these people sell their land now. [getting] Pennies on the dollar. They won’t be able to afford a house…maybe in California for the burned land. So helping these families get their homes back will be a passion project for me! ”
Civil Soul Organization distributes many small items for families in crisis. Showing some items, she said, “All these children need are colored pencils and paper, which they can take back to their hotels and shelters.”
This is a passion project for her with no clear end in sight.
John said, “This is going to take a lot of patience and trust…People watching this, maybe 1 percent will be affected by this, but we’re all vulnerable in this world.” There is,” he pointed out.
Stamos emphasized the importance of “celebrating the good because there’s a lot of good in the world.”
Two weeks from today, Mr. and Mrs. Stamos will celebrate their 8th wedding anniversary.
John said: “I’m so proud of her…proud of who she is in front of our son. I hit the jackpot and I don’t know what I did in my past life. I appreciate it and I understand.”
Stamos also drew attention to McHugh’s recent trip to Tijuana to help children in need. He proudly added, “That’s her.”
