Milwaukee – President Biden’s re-election campaign is refuting a series of reports over the past 24 hours that the president has increasingly been open to arguments about why he should not seek reelection in 2024.
“Our campaign is not envisioning a scenario in which President Biden is not the front-runner. He is and will continue to be the Democratic nominee,” Biden’s deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks told reporters at a news conference near the Republican National Convention on Thursday morning.
“The president has said many times, he’s continuing this campaign,” Fulks said. “We look forward to him accepting delegates in Chicago, continuing this campaign and talking about what’s at stake.”

After a disastrous performance in last month’s head-to-head debate with former President Donald Trump, the 81-year-old Biden is facing questions about whether he has the physical and mental strength to serve another four years in the world’s toughest job.

And politically, Biden has resisted growing calls from Democratic lawmakers who are deeply concerned that the Democrats could lose not only the White House but both Houses of Congress in the fall elections to end his campaign.

Reports in the past 24 hours have said that top Democratic leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have had frank discussions with President Biden about ending his campaign.
Asked again at a news conference whether Biden might consider stepping down, Fulks said: “The president’s not upset about anything. The president has made a decision. I don’t want to be disrespectful, but I don’t know how much more I can answer. Joe Biden has said he’s going to run for president of the United States. Our campaign is moving forward.”
