The 35th American Century Championship will be held July 12-14 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
The event will feature 89 athletes and celebrities. Here’s what you need to know.
What is the format?
Players compete over 54 holes in a modified Stableford format, where points are awarded according to performance on a hole rather than a score against par.
How will the marks be calculated?
- Albatross (1 hole 3 under): 10 points
- Hole-in-one: 8 points
- Eagle (2 under): 6 points
- Birdie (1 under): 3 points
- Par (even): 1 point
- Bogey (1 over): 0 points
- Double or less (over 2): -2 points
No score worse than a double bogey is permitted. The player with the most points after three rounds is the winner.
What is a wallet?
The total prize pool is $750,000: first place gets $150,000, second place gets $70,000 and third place gets $40,000.
Who are the defending champions?
NBA star Stephen Curry (75 points) won last year’s tournament. A dramatic eagle on the final holeHowever, he is not expected to return to defend his title as he is preparing for the Olympics.
Who are some of the other recent winners?
Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo (2018, ’19, ’22) has won the event three of the past five years. Other winners include former NBA guard Vinny Del Negro (2021), former tennis player Mardy Fish (2020) and former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder (2015-17).
Who are the players to watch this year?
If you’ve seen previous celebrity events you’ll see some familiar faces, but there are some standouts at this year’s American Century Championship.
Recently retired NFL center Jason Kelce will be competing in the tournament for the first time, joining his brother Travis, who has competed five times in the past. Other notable competitors include three current NFL quarterbacks: Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence and Aaron Rodgers. Also appearing are wrestler The Miz, recent Stanley Cup winner Matthew Tkachuk, NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, and actors Rob McElhenney and Miles Teller.

The par-3 17th hole at Edgewood is a party hole. It’s right on the beach and filled with music, fans, boats, booze, football, basketball and other things you won’t find at your average golf tournament.
