The recent uproar at the Washington Post by reporters who objected to the paper’s op-ed page’s neutral stance on the presidential election could save journalism — a discredited and declining business — if it were to save it. It shows that journalists are the last of the people. Who should newspaper owners listen to?
It is journalists who are creating the current mess that is journalism. Today, the vast majority of journalists lack connection with the American people. They are liberals, which is why many of them are upset that the Post did not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate.
They can’t stand former President Donald Trump. They want and need their values and virtues reaffirmed. When it doesn’t, I scream.
Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos wants more conservative opinion writers on paper: report
Just recently, Gallup reported that Americans’ trust in the media is at a record low. When asked, “How much trust and confidence do you have in mass media, such as newspapers, television, and radio, to report the news completely, accurately, and fairly?”, 69% of respondents had little or no confidence. Report the news straight to news outlets that you said you either don’t trust or don’t trust at all.

Media has been in decline for decades. Reporters don’t care. No matter how much credibility and money they lose, journalists, especially in Washington DC and New York City, are passionate defenders of the moribund status quo. They refuse to change because they think they are doing the right thing and the American people, especially Trump supporters, are wrong.
When I was President George W. Bush’s press secretary in the early 2000s, the media landscape began to change. Ever-liberal reporters have always believed that their work should be impartial and neutral. In contrast to the coverage of the Biden White House in the aftermath of Hurricane Helen after Hurricane Katrina, where the media blamed the Bush administration for its aftermath, reporters, especially as social media I began to enjoy being an activist, using my opinions as a weapon. appeared.
Barack Obama’s rise to power in 2008 stunned them, and Trump’s rise to politics in 2016 effectively turned most against them.
Today, most journalists are thinly disguised as liberal politicians or activists for a cause. The Democratic Party-media industrial complex is deeply entrenched. From journalism school students who are overwhelmingly Democratic to liberal J-school professors to most newsrooms today, liberals are in control, and outside of a few news outlets, conservatives is difficult to find.
That’s why non-support was so offensive to them. Many of them have the same left-wing worldview. The sensible idea of neutrality is shocking to them, especially when it concerns Trump.

But if trust in journalism is ever to be restored, Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos is showing the way. This is achieved through neutrality and impartiality.
The American public wants to be told the facts and truth without spin, and they can analyze what the story means and what conclusions should be reached without being dictated to by the media. . They are tired of one-sided opinions disguised as stories and analysis.

Reporters today are hardly able to remain neutral, especially when it comes to Trump. That’s why it’s important that Bezos doesn’t support it. Despite protests from biased newsrooms and editorial page staff, he just told what most Americans wanted. Journalists today are driving their industry into bankruptcy and ruin. They are not trusted and have no benefit. They are the last people media owners should listen to.

For journalism to be saved, it needs owners who are committed to fairness and neutrality. If the newsroom does not agree, the owner must secure a new newsroom.
Whatever the reason, if Bezos has done this, other media moguls should do the same in every newsroom, not just their editorial pages. That is the only way to save journalism and restore trust.
