Two Japanese airlines said more than 100 flights to and from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport were expected to be canceled on Wednesday after a plane crash on a runway the previous day.
The flight cancellations will affect an estimated 20,000 passengers, state broadcaster NHK reported. This includes 9,250 passengers on Japan Airlines (JAL), the airline told CNN on Wednesday.
The cancellations include 54 domestic flights and one international flight from Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA) and 50 domestic flights from JAL, according to both airlines.
In response, JR Central will offer additional Shinkansen services on Wednesday, according to NHK.

According to the airline, all 379 passengers and crew on JAL Flight 516, including eight children under the age of two, were safely evacuated from the aircraft.
According to Japan’s Transport Minister Tetsuo Saito, five crew members were killed in the second De Havilland Canada DHC-8.
Video showed the JAL plane ejecting a huge fireball as it ignited, leaving a fiery trail on the runway.
The investigation into the crash is currently ongoing. Experts tell CNN The success of the evacuation was due to a combination of the latest safety standards and JAL’s uniquely rigorous safety culture.
