Sean “Diddy” Combs is scheduled to remain in jail after a hearing in New York City today.
Mr. Combs is being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center after pleading not guilty to charges of racketeering, conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation of prostitutes.
Judge Arun Subramanian denied the rapper’s bail request, so Combs will remain in jail.
A judge ruled that the rapper will remain in custody for the duration of the trial, which is scheduled to begin on May 5, 2025.
Prosecutors also said the investigation is ongoing and could lead to additional charges.
Prosecutor Emily Johnson estimated the government’s case would last about three weeks, while defense attorney Mark Agnifilo said Combs’ case would last about a week, the wire service reported.
Combs’ lawyers previously claimed the government was leaking evidence in the music mogul’s trial to “taint the jury pool.”
In legal documents obtained by Extra, Combs’ team said, “A series of illegal government leaks have been harmful and highly prejudicial enough to taint the jury pool and deprive Mr. Combs of his right to a trial.” “This led to significant pre-trial publicity.” A fair trial. ”
The document goes on to claim that the “most egregious example” of the leak was a video of Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Kathy Ventura, in a hotel hallway in 2016. The video was leaked to CNN in May 2024.
This application also includes footnotes. “After the undersigned notified the government that they would be filing this motion, prosecutors stated that the video CNN aired was not obtained through grand jury proceedings and that DHS did not release the videotape before CNN submitted it.” “I did not own the publication of it.” However, government lawyers have given no indication that they have investigated any leaks related to this case. And, as discussed, we are not suggesting that the U.S. Attorney’s Office itself leaked the videotape, but all of the evidence cited above, as well as the vast number of investigators involved in the investigation and leaked Considering its history, it seems perfectly reasonable that the video was leaked. Leaked by one or more DHS employees. ”
Combs’ team also listed the following demands: (2) discovery of emails, documents, and records in government possession (including DHS) related to these breaches; (3) A gag order prohibiting government officials from disclosing evidence or investigative materials related to the case to members of the media. (4) Suppression of evidence divulged by a public official in violation of Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e) or any other law, rule, or regulation. ”
