MSNBC once described itself as “the political arena” and used the slogan “Stay Positive.”
But given what we’ve heard from the network over the past few days, and frankly, over the past 20 years, MSNBC wouldn’t be surprised to call itself “the place for crazy conspiracy theories.”“
On July 13, we witnessed one of the most terrifying events in American history: former president and likely future president Donald Trump was speaking at an outdoor rally in western Pennsylvania on a hot Saturday afternoon when an assassin’s bullet struck his ear. Only a perfectly timed turn of his head to read a chart prevented the bullet from penetrating his brain.
MSNBC’s Michael Steele accused of pushing ‘conspiracy theories’ after questioning Trump’s ear scar
Trump clutched his ear as if he’d been bitten by a giant mosquito, then collapsed as Secret Service agents swarmed around him. The next moment, the former president was on his feet, pumping his fist into the crowd and imploring his supporters to “fight, fight, fight,” with streaks of blood running down his ear and cheek.
Anyone who watches this — and this is pretty much everyone in the world at this point — with eyesight, hearing and an ounce of sanity would logically conclude that, thank goodness, Trump was not fatally injured, and, most importantly, that someone tried to kill him and came very close. One would expect the coverage of such a dramatic story, which plays out naturally on national television, to be calm, clear and straightforward.
But that never happened at MSNBC: credibility, honesty, and the aforementioned sanity, never mind.
Earlier this week, Michael Steele, a former Republican National Committee chairman and now Trump-hating MSNBC commentator, questioned whether Trump was actually shot on air, instead positing a conspiracy theory that a bullet struck the teleprompter, shattering the glass, and that Trump was only hit by the glass and not the actual bullet.
“What about reports that it may not have been a bullet that injured him, but rather broken teleprompter glass?” Steele asked.
In the same rant, Steele demanded the immediate release of Trump’s medical reports to prove that Trump’s ear was in fact hit by a bullet.
Two days before Steele made this claim, the left-leaning fact-checking site Snopes had already denied the teleprompter speculation, pointing out that all teleprompters were intact after the incident. The network should have removed Steele from the air for making such irresponsible statements, but we’ve learned not to expect accountability from Peacock.
Joy Reid is a primetime host with a long history of lies and deception, as documented here: here and here Firstly, it takes this a step further by suggesting that the entire assassination attempt was actually engineered and staged for President Trump’s political gain.
“I have so many questions! For example, where are the medical reports,” she wrote to X this week. “What caused Trump’s injuries? What were the injuries? Shrapnel? Glass? Bullet injuries? Where were the 3 attendees who were sitting/standing near Trump?”
“Why was Trump allowed to stand up and pose for a photo op?” she asked.
You know what this means: They’re saying Trump performed a stolen martial arts stunt. They miss the point that even if Trump was only “grazed” by a bullet, he nearly died in front of the nation.

And they’re clearly not asking the right questions. Here are some questions they might ask in case they really want to do journalism:
- Why did the Secret Service allow Trump to take the stage if they knew for an hour that there was a threat nearby?
- Why didn’t the Secret Service and local police secure the only building within view of the former president? Any firearms expert will tell you that a headshot from 130 yards with an AR-15 is the equivalent of sinking a two-foot putt in golf. If Trump hadn’t turned his head, he’d probably be dead by now.
- Why hasn’t Director of the Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle been fired yet? Why haven’t the senior members and commanders of this operation been fired yet?
- Why were so many security resources dedicated to an event hosted by First Lady Jill Biden when the threat level against President Trump was much higher?
- Why did the Secret Service ask so few questions about what happened that day?
The fact that all these things are barely discussed on this so-called news network is astonishing, even for MSNBC.

It’s no secret that many members of MSNBC are infected with an incurable condition called Trump Derangement Syndrome, and have been so ever since Trump first announced his candidacy for president in 2015. Their hatred has become so intense that, in the midst of one of the biggest news stories of our lifetimes, they have decided to sacrifice their own integrity and honesty for the cause of defeating Trump in November.
MSNBC needs to finally tell the truth and call itself a “conspiracy-addled destination” now and for the foreseeable future.
