In his book, Hurd urged his party to rethink its political style, offering ideas for reforming America’s political system and keeping the nation competitive against China and other great powers.
“Here’s what I’ve learned over the last few years: No one wants to see a 2020 repeat,” Hurd claimed. “I think there are a lot of Republicans who want conservative policies enacted, but if they don’t win the election, they can enact conservative policies.”

Asked about a possible run for the White House, Hurd said, “I’ve always been open minded about how I serve my country. And that’s one of the reasons I’m in New Hampshire about how the importance of the nation’s first primary will play a role and determine the kind of America we want. It is to speak.
“The New Hampshire Republicans recognize and understand the importance of their position, and that they are making decisions not just for themselves, but for the nation as a whole. I know, and that’s my message.”

“If he resonates anywhere, it will be here, because New Hampshire still gives candidates a chance to speak up, to be heeded, and to be taken seriously. Someone as trustworthy as Heard will get that opportunity,” said Merrill.
“Whether it’s more widespread remains to be seen. But we’ve seen many times that underfunded candidates do well in New Hampshire and exceed expectations. And for Will Hurd, , if he decides to run, it may simply exceed expectations.”
