“Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration” has officially finished showings at Universal Studios Florida, making way for a new nighttime spectacle.
“Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration” kicked off in 2018. Performed at Universal Studios Florida Lagoon, it featured an exclusive viewing on the lawns of Central Park and featured fireworks, projected water curtains, projection mapping, and over 120 fountains. Footage from the ‘Harry Potter’ movies, ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Fast and Furious’, ‘ET’, ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Transformers’ was used. Although the show was put on hiatus for several months in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, back in october of that year. In 2021, Tokyo Olympics pre-show.
Universal Orlando described the spectacular show as an epic show that will transform the park and “take you into the cinema like never before” with a spectacular celebration of music, water and light.
The announcement of the closure of “Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration” was abrupt and did not offer fans a chance to revisit the show before it ended. It’s still listed on the Universal Orlando Resort app, but marked as “closed”. So far, no debut date has been announced for the new show, so there’s no evening spectacle at Universal Studios Florida.
Details of the new nighttime spectacle have also not been announced. Rumors of new shows with dronesSources say testing for this potential show has already begun. Drones can be used to create images in the sky, and while this technology has been used by both Disney and Universal before, it’s not used much.
Drones offer a solution to Universal’s nighttime show problem. Because the Universal Orlando Resort is located in an urban area and is surrounded by residential neighborhoods (including apartment buildings directly backed up to the property), the show includes little to no fireworks. Drones can be substituted to create the “impressive” element that many guests complain is lacking in lagoon shows.
Drones can utilize water curtains and projection mapping to complement the more spectacular shows.
