Days after being nominated for a Golden Globe for his role as Bob Dylan in Completely Unknown, Timothée Chalamet appeared on the red carpet at the film’s LA premiere.
Extra’s Terry Seymour spoke with Chalamet, who reflected on Bob’s approval of Chalamet’s role on social media.
Calling it “unreal,” Timothy added, “He’s a man of few words. He’s probably said fewer words publicly in his life than I’ve said in this interview alone. So, to get some kind of affirmation, you have to examine it deeply. We all do that in our lives and we want our heroes to affirm us if they knew us, so I hope he does. The fact that he gave it to me is more than I could have hoped for, and I hope he doesn’t remove it.”
Chalamet has not spoken to Dylan and has no plans to contact him. He explained: He’s a recluse and an enigma, which is a good thing for someone who has had such an elusive career as Bob. We should…leave them alone. ”
The 28-year-old had already been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film, which has yet to be released. He said: “This is a good starting point for the movie, but we want to get this movie out into the world…to get people to know about this amazing artist and human being, Bob Dylan, and all the artists like Joan Baez and Pete Seeger. I want you to do it. In this incredible period of the 1960s…this was like the most fertile period in American cultural history…it was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, so… I hope people take the time to check out this movie.”
When asked if he expected to have to memorize 40 Bob Dylan songs for the role, Chalamet said: There would be time, and it was a gift that just kept on giving and still giving. I still discover Bob Dylan’s music because there’s a lot of Bob Dylan’s music. There is a lot of great music by Bob Dylan. ”
Timothy learned to play the guitar, harmonica, and piano. He admitted: “It was tough because once the movie was over, I didn’t have a chance to play guitar or harmonica or piano anymore. I played voraciously non-stop for five years. It was my pastime in other movies. So now I’m in a down period outside of my music career, which is great, and it’s great to be able to think creatively.”
Chalamet said he was “relieved” to finally be able to see the movie. He commented: This is one of those rare movies that depicts an incredible time. We all worked really hard, we had a great director, we had the right budget, and we made it happen. There are no cynical commercial goals here. ”
He also reflected on how difficult it is to play an icon, much less someone who is still alive.
He said, “That’s why that post [from Dylan] Your opinion about X was very valid. Because he could and had the right to say the opposite. If someone made a movie about your life, you could say, “Hey, don’t do that.” But he’s been involved from the beginning and he’s one of my favorite artists of all time. Therefore, we are a humble asterisk and honor to this man’s legacy. ”
Timothy also addressed the mustache he wore while filming Marty Supreme and whether we’ll see it at the Golden Globes, saying, “I don’t know. The project is basically over. But it’s not 100% finished.”
Regarding its appearance, he said, “No! A few years ago, we couldn’t really grow it yet. This is about 60 percent.” He added: “I’m having fun.”
“A Complete Unknown” will be released on December 25th.
