The Ohio Department of Development and Lifeline Corporation announced that they continue to assist income-eligible Lake County residents with water and wastewater assistance.
The Temporary Federal Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program provides assistance for eligible residents to pay water and wastewater bills when they are overdue or unconnected. The program has been extended until September 30, 2023, according to a news release.
“For years we have thought we needed help with our water bills,” Lifeline executive director Carrie Dotson said in a release. “We help millions of people with their heating and cooling costs each year through our HEAP program, but there has always been a shortage of water, which is as vital as heating and cooling. , we are very pleased to be able to more fully support our residents.”
Since its launch in mid-February, more than 150 Lake County households have been approved for assistance with their water or stormwater bills. The federal government spent just over $34,000 on his LIHWAP fund, the release said.
To apply for this program, clients must contact Lifeline, Inc. Due to COVID-19 precautions, all applications are accepted by appointment and in person. Walk-in sessions will not be held.

Clients must bring copies of the following documents with them at the time of booking:
• A copy of the latest water and sewage charges
• A list of all household members and proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each household member and social security card
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all family members
• Proof of disability, if applicable.
