It was a great start for the Texas Rangers.
A day after Jordan Montgomery led the Astros to a shutout victory in Game 1 of the ALCS, the Rangers won 5-4 in a thrilling Game 2 on Monday. The Rangers got off to a 4-0 start in the first inning, got a three-run hit from Nathan Eovaldi in the sixth inning, and survived the fifth inning with no outs and the bases loaded without giving up any runs.
The Astros closed the gap to 5-4 in the 8th inning with Yordan Alvarez’s second home run of the day, but it did not tie the game or take the lead. The series moves to Arlington on Wednesday. The Rangers, currently 7-0 in the postseason, will play three games at home, but need two wins to finish the series.
In the nightcap, the Philadelphia Phillies kick off their NLCS game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Philadelphia is aiming for its second straight World Series appearance, but Arizona hasn’t been in this position since 2007, when the D-backs lost to the Colorado Rockies in the National League. It’s a Zack/Cus battle between Arizona’s Zac Gallen and Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler.
