President-elect Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, said Saturday that she will drop Florida Republican Marco Rubio’s Senate nomination.
“After incredible thought, deliberation, and encouragement from so many incredible people, I have decided to remove my name from consideration in the U.S. Senate,” she wrote on Saturday. .
The president-elect nominated Rubio to be secretary of state.
“I could not be more honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC during the most high-stakes election of our lifetimes. I’m truly humbled by the incredible support you’ve given me, the state of Florida,” Lara Trump added.

Trump, who is the wife of the president-elect’s son Eric Trump, resigned as co-chair of the Republican National Committee earlier this month.
“I’ve read so many of your kind messages and I can’t thank you enough,” Lara Trump said, adding, “I look forward to a big announcement in January.”
She said, “I have an incredible passion for public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment.” I’m praying,” he said.
The president-elect had previously pressured DeSantis to nominate Lara to replace Rubio, a political insider told Fox News Digital, but he later told reporters that he didn’t necessarily think she was the right choice. He said he did not expect to be selected.

Rubio’s successor in the Senate will be appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and will serve the remaining two years of Rubio’s term.

Lara Trump previously said she was “seriously considering” the role, although she didn’t know if it was the right fit for her.
