Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant has chopped his name deep into NBA history and surpassed Kevin Garnett to rank 13th on the league’s best field goal (FGM) list. Milestone won the Cleveland Cavaliers during the Suns’ 123-112 victory on March 20, 2025, recording their third straight win, extending Cleveland’s winning streak to four games.

Durant delivered the master class, earning 42 points, six rebounds and eight assists. He shot 29-17 from the floor. This included a four-nineth career tally of 10,506 FGM. The feat moved him in front of Garnett, leaving behind seven shots with John Havelaisek (10,513 FGM) in 12th place. At the top of the leaderboard is Kareem Abdul Jabbar with incredible career field goals of 15,837.

Durant now finds himself within an elite company, and is tracking only these NBA greats: LeBron James (40,179), Kareem Abdul Jabber (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292), Wiltzki (31,560) (31,419).

Historical scoring legacy

Adding another admiration to his illustrious career, Durant recorded his 72nd game with over 40 points. He is part of the exclusive group of Lebron James, Kobe Bryant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the fourth player in NBA history to notch multiple 40-point games since his 17th season. With his scoring ability further, Durant registered performances of over 40 points against all teams in the league.

Durant and the Suns focus on playoff push

Durant emphasized the importance of gaining momentum as the Suns competed for the postseason berth, where he is currently sitting in 10th place in the Western Conference.

“It’s important to get big wins and get good momentum, especially during this period,” Durant said after the match. “I liked the playing style of having the last few games on both ends of the floor.”

Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer praised Durant’s offensive mastery against some of the league’s top defenders. “These are great defenders he’s against, and there’s a night when he can reach the spot, reach his shot and score at a high percentage. He was special tonight,” Budenholzer pointed out.

Important contributions from the Sands’ supporting cast

While Durant led the scoring efforts, Phoenix benefited from solid performances from other key players. Devin Booker had 17 points, two rebounds and 10 assists, while Ty Jones added 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Royce O’Neale earned the chips with 15 points, five rebounds and two assists.

The victory helped the Suns improve to 34-37, preparing for a key showdown against the Milwaukee Bucks on March 24th. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are about to snap the skid and have to reorganize to solidify their playoff positioning.
