One woman says she hung up during a job screening call after a recruiter said employees were required to answer emails after hours and work a day on weekends.
In the video Lauren posted (@lauren_morgann) On April 4th, the first interview for a job was going well, but the recruiter decided that all employees would monitor their emails after hours and choose one day on the weekend to come into the office. I let her know what was required.
“I’m not happy with my salary and feel like I have no work-life balance at all…it’s just uncoordinated. But I sincerely hope you find what you’re looking for.” I hope so,” she told the recruiter before hanging up.
The caption reads: This is why.
@lauren_morgann So employers are kind of why Gen Z doesn’t want to work 9-5. For this reason. #Job search #9to5 #interview # work-life balance #foryoupage ♬ Original sound – laurenn_morgann
In the comments section, users blamed the company, which Lauren didn’t name, for lack of work-life balance and boundaries.
“What is possible [be] does it matter? As if the work is not real. Email she can wait a day,” one user wrote. This prompted Lauren to respond, “I want you to literally bare your heart and soul for minimum wage.”
“Wow, they’re not even trying to hide it,” said another. “As a recruiter, it’s a nightmare.”
“As of the 6th, I think they’ll say, ‘Would you like a company sleepover? We can work 7 days a week! ’ *sleeping bags not provided*”.
Others attempted to analyze how much extra wages future employees should be given if asked to work outside the traditional nine to five hours.
“Constantly checking email at home + 6 days a week at the office = 24/7 work. If they offer less than $63,510, that’s below the minimum wage given ‘on call,’” commenter said.
