Dear Dave,
My husband and I have been very blessed financially in our lives. Together we make a combined $200,000+ a year and our current net worth is approximately $4 million. But what if you no longer feel motivated to do those things? How do you find and live your God-ordained purpose in life when your life has been so much more fulfilling than you ever expected?
Amanda
Dear Amanda,
I don’t know what your calling is, but I can tell you this: You’ll find great fulfillment and joy when you’re doing something for the people and things that matter most in your life.
If you’ve studied a bit of psychology, you might remember something called Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Essentially, once our physiological and safety needs are met, we start to feel the need to look for other things to motivate us. You both sound like you’re hardworking, achievement-oriented people. I am, too. And we have different ways of unplugging from work and finding fulfillment than most people.
I’ve been helping Americans with financial problems for decades. Parents shouldn’t pay their adult children’s bills.
If I were you, I would start thinking about what you could do. Serve Others Or a cause you care about. Maybe you had a dream back in the day but put it aside for your career. What really resonates with you now, at this stage in your life? If you have kids at home, maybe it’s to be a stay-at-home mom and give your all to them. Maybe it’s to start an animal shelter or to feed people who can’t go out. Everyone has dreams, and they’re different for everyone.

Since it seems like you’ve been thinking about this for a while, here’s some advice for you: Take a day, or even a weekend, for yourself. Get away from everything, everyone, all outside distractions, and think about your future self. Bring something to eat, something to drink, a notepad, a pencil, and a Bible. And before you do anything else, take a deep breath, relax, and pray.

From there, be totally honest with God and yourself. Open your heart and mind to what you value and to all the possibilities. You need a goal worth keeping in mind, and that’s the only thing you’ll be missing. But with some time for thoughtful prayer and, yes, even some daydreaming, you might be closer to the answers than ever before.
Congratulations on your success Amanda. You and your husband are truly blessed, but maybe now is the time to give a blessing to others!
