Halle Berry is channeling her inner mama bear in the new psychological horror thriller “Never Let Go.”
Extra’s Teri Seymour spoke with Harry and her child co-stars Percy Daggs IV and Anthony Jenkins about the film and the possibility of returning as Catwoman.
Harry has said in the past that she’d consider reprising her role as Catwoman if a director were available, but it’s still a “possibility” for her, as she points out, “I’m on late night and messing around.”
Berry continued seriously: “I’m glad that, as a character, Catwoman is getting her due, because in my opinion, she was mistreated in her time. I’m glad that a younger audience is discovering it now and getting the joke.”
The Oscar winner’s most important role is being a mother to her two children, daughter Nahla and son Maceo.
Harry commented, “Before I’m an actor, I’m a mother. Being a mother is a big part of my life so I’m delighted to be able to play a character like this.”
In “Never Let Go,” Harry plays a mother trying to protect her twin sons, Percy and Anthony, her on-screen children, as evil takes over the world outside their home.
It was a role Harry could easily identify with, as she said, “Ever since my daughter was born 16 years ago, I’ve been able to relate to every mama bear role I’ve ever been lucky enough to play.”
Percy raved about Harry, saying it was “amazing” to have her play his mother, adding, “She was so helpful whenever I needed her. She was always there.”
To strengthen their bond even after filming ended, the three exchanged a secret handshake.
“That was really interesting,” Harry pointed out as he demonstrated the film.
Regarding the film’s message, Berry said, “I think what the film is about is family first. I think the mother’s goal was to keep her family safe. Whether you understand the choices she made or not, the underlying message of the film is definitely that she was trying to keep her family safe.”
“Never Let Go” will be released on September 20th.
