Social media posts from well-intentioned shoppers are rife with posts blaming thrift store chains for some items and subsequent prices.
In some cases, shoppers find the same product to have vastly different prices. Others have noticed that Goodwill may charge more for their merchandise than the original retailer.
Well, another social media user spotted Goodwill’s price increase. In a video with over 19,000 views, a TikToker named Veronica (@thatgirl_verooo) noticed a price difference between the original tag and the Goodwill tag on a Banana Republic dress she found at a thrift store. I shared with

“I swear to God, this is why I hate shopping at Goodwill,” Veronica says at the beginning of the clip.
She then turned her camera to a dress on one of the store’s racks and grabbed the original tag.
“Make sure you look at the Banana Republic dress that sold for $29.99,” she says. She then picked up the Goodwill tag affixed to another part of the dress and said, “They increased the price to her $49.99. Are you kidding me?”
In the comments section, viewers echoed Veronica’s shock and criticized Goodwill.
One person wrote, “Good intentions are now a joke.”
“$50 in good faith???” asked again.
“I’m thrifty and I hate good intentions,” said a third person. “This is my only negative review on yelp.”
“I only go to Goodwill to buy video games and DVDs,” added another.
Some commenters noted that the price of the goods is much higher than the price the company needs to be profitable.
“I used to work at a thrift store and I made a profit just by selling each item for 0.25 yen,” said one viewer.
“Wait, are you selling donated clothing for $50? said.
Others provided suggestions for getting items at discounted prices.
“Speak to your manager and ask them to help you,” wrote one commenter.
