As adults, we can look back and laugh at silly trends that used to be. For example, remember the Jelly shoes or the Snap-her bracelet? In retrospect, some of these trends were pretty silly, but that was all. We had different stages, like when we thought it was the coolest thing to carry a backpack over one shoulder.

And let’s not forget the classic pog collecting trend. It consists of stacking small round pieces of cardboard and hitting them with a metal hammer. It’s funny to think how much time we spent on these silly trends, but they made our childhoods even more memorable.

So let’s take some of the dumbest trends back in time.

1. Cool school bag

Your bag was your status symbol. It shows how cool you are and how you wear it will determine your place among cool kids. It was easy to put my hand in my pocket and hang it over my arm, or adjust the strap so it went over my hips. Ever wonder where your back pain came from to this day?

2. Cheap Tongue

At that time, using baby oil for tanning was all the rage. The idea was that it would help you get a deeper, more even tan. However, it has been found that using baby oil intensifies the sun’s rays, which can make you more susceptible to sunburn, skin damage, and even skin cancer.

3. Get a grill

Who wouldn’t want a cool looking grill? Maybe it’s because of the glittery nature of aluminum foil, or maybe it’s just the fact that we had nothing else to do and thought we looked cool. But everyone has foil over their teeth to flatten them out and smile at everyone.

Good luck if you have sensitive teeth.

4. All That Glitter

It was almost completely impossible to remove all the bits. Face glitter became hair glitter and hair became body. Before you know it, it will be attached to your clothes, creating unforgettable memories at music festivals and parties.

You probably have a Polaroid photo of you and your best friend glowing on a night out.

5. Baggy pants

I don’t know who started this trend, maybe LL Cool J or Tupac, but baggy pants were impractical. I had to stop and pull up every ten steps. It was about pants hanging so low that boxers and thongs were visible to the world. We still don’t know why we did this.

6. Mood ring

These were the heights of spirituality. sad? Match black. Happy? bright pink. I’m hungry? A shade between red and peach. We wore these like windows to our minds, rather than just cheap liquid crystals that change color depending on the temperature.

7. Pencil/Pen Battle

Arena? flat desk. Who are your competitors? your best pencil. This grueling deathmatch was a winner-takes-all battle, challenged only by the bravest with the most skillful moves and sharp shooting instincts. Maybe it’s just for bragging rights, but we had the best penfight.

Sometimes it was so loud that I had to take him to the “underground” cafeteria away from the teachers.

8. Wallet chain

Wallet chains were the ultimate accessory for the edgy punk rock kids of the 80’s and 90’s. They jingled and dangled from your pants, telling you that you were too cool to carry a wallet in your pocket like a normal person.

Everyone wanted it, even if they didn’t know why. If you didn’t have it, you were just a square.

9. Shutter shade

With sunglasses on, it looked like a robot or a fence. These were all the rage in his 2000s, and everyone from Kanye his West to Paris Hilton were taking it. But let’s be honest. could have been more practical. How can you see anything through that horizontal plate?

But that didn’t stop us from wanting them. The shutter shades in the wardrobe were something of a rite of passage. Even if she only wore it once or she only wore it twice, it was worth it to feel like a future fashion icon.

10. Ding Dong Ditch

It was the ultimate test of your stealth skills as you and your friends sneaked up to someone’s door, rang the doorbell, and sprinted away before they could answer. There was a thrill that was hard to resist, and the danger of getting caught added to the excitement.

Looking back now, it might have been more of an annoyance to the person who rang the bell than it was fun for us. But hey, we were just kids innocently (albeit a bit naughty) having fun.

11. Record songs for ringtones

Before we could buy song clips as ringtones, kids figured out how to record them.

Ironically, it feels like most people today leave their phones on silent. You can’t show off your cool new ringtones with this. Don’t let the ringtone song start.

12. Choose one side in the war of bands

One person recalls the “Great Fandom Wars” between N*SYNC and the Backstreet Boys.

Forget Team Edward vs. Team Jacob. Picking the “wrong” boy band meant being snubbed by your friends.

13. Pog

It seemed like Pogs had a hot day, and what a great day it was.

In retrospect, this was a ridiculous fad that probably subtly encouraged us to gamble when we were kids.
