WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — For the past three years, the Central Texas Regional Transportation Authority (CTRMA) has been working on construction of Toll Road 183A in Williamson County.

“Before construction begins, there are blueprints, and before that there are schematics and environments,” said Mike Sexton, CTRMA director of engineering.

There are a lot of moving parts in a project of that magnitude.

“We visit with neighbors, homeowners associations, local and regional councils to discuss the project. We get their interest and buy-in,” Sexton explained.

This also means there’s a chance a problem or two could arise during construction: Several KXAN viewers have contacted us to express concerns about water runoff from the project site.

“Between each phase of construction there will be situations where changes occur that cannot always be planned for,” Sexton said.

CTRMA has its own construction engineering team that anticipates and responds to issues that may arise on a regular basis, including issues caused by rain.

“We have 10 water quality ponds and four [water] “We’re putting them in jail before we release them back into society,” Sexton said.

The region’s rapid growth is also literally changing the landscape.

“If you go down that corridor, you’re going to see a lot of new development that will change the way water flows through the area,” Sexton explained.

Sexton said workers check in every week as part of their inspection reports to make sure everything is going smoothly.

The end of the project is nearing: if all goes according to plan, the road is expected to be completed by early 2025.
