WhatsApp, a widely used instant messaging application developed by Meta, has been actively enhancing its features recently. At the same time, the platform is preparing to implement an update that will end support for certain older iPhone models.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iPhone includes notifications about message alerts for some of these older devices. Specifically, an update scheduled to be released in May 2025 will end support for operating system versions prior to iOS 15.1.

Currently, WhatsApp is compatible with iOS 12 and later versions. The notification says, “To continue using WhatsApp, please update your iOS to the latest version.” WhatsApp will no longer support this version of iOS after May 5, 2025. To get the latest iOS version, go to[設定]>[一般]Move to[ソフトウェア アップデート]Please tap. ” WhatsApp will no longer work on the following iPhone models:

-iPhone 5s
-iPhone 6
– iPhone 6 Plus

Additionally, WhatsApp has not yet released an official app for iPad, except for a beta version that is accessible to a limited number of users via TestFlight. Related to this, an upcoming update will also end support for the original iPad Air and iPad mini 2 and 3.

The current beta version of iPad requires iPadOS 12 or later. Developers typically discontinue support for older iOS versions in order to focus on improving compatibility with the latest versions that incorporate new advanced technologies. Additionally, Apple reports that only 9% of iPhones are running versions prior to iOS 16.

If you have a new iPhone or iPad and are still running older software, we recommend updating your operating system to continue using WhatsApp. However, if you own any of the devices mentioned above, you may need to buy a new phone.
