A portion of Interstate 680 will be closed this weekend to allow crews to continue a paving project in the East Bay.

The partial road closure includes the three left lanes of southbound I-680 between Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon and the I-580-I-680 connector in Pleasanton . Lanes will be closed at 9 p.m. Friday and will remain closed until 4 a.m. Monday, Caltrans said.

The two right lanes of I-680 will remain open during the project, but Caltrans is encouraging drivers to take alternative routes.

“This area can get quite busy, especially on weekends, even without any road closures,” Caltrans spokeswoman Janice Marra said. “We are doing our best to accommodate people by keeping these two lanes open, but we ask motorists to avoid the area if possible.”

We are planning a similar closure from May 31st to June 3rd.

Detour route during partial closure of Interstate 680

• Motorists traveling westbound on I-80 in Vacaville and Fairfield will continue southbound on I-80 and southbound on I-880.
• If you are driving southbound on I-680 near the Benicia Bridge, take I-780 west, then I-80, then southbound I-880. can do.
• Drivers heading south on I-680 in Concord can take SR-4 to I-80 and then southbound on I-880.
• Drivers driving southbound on Interstate 680 in Walnut Creek can take SR-24 to Interstate 80 and then Interstate 880 southbound.
