Max Scherzer is the greatest national of all time and my favorite player. Nevertheless, it appears that Washingtonians have not made any effort to return him to their free agency. He won the Toronto Blue Jays on a one-year, $15.5 million contract. This is a significant amount for those who have missed a lot of time recently, but that’s what I think the public should have done.
Shelzer this spring shows that he still has some gas in the tank. In nine innings he allowed two runs with 14 strikeouts and zero walks. After plaguing 2024 when Mad Max only made nine starts, there were concerns about whether the 40-year-old still has gas in the tank, but it looks like him.
Even at his upper age, I would prefer Shelzer over Trevor Williams. signature A two-year, $14 million deal. MLB GM should not be sentimental, but getting Max back would have been a great gift for fans who have been struggling over the past few years.
Not only that, Scherzer will be a great mentor to the younger pitchers on the staff. If I were Mackenzie Gore or DJ Hertz, I would rather get the pointer from Max Shelzer than Trevor Williams or Lucas Sims.
Even in an injury season that called him “washed,” Scherzer’s Sub 4 Era would be a plus with this Nats staff. It’s clear that Blue Jays fans are already fans I love men I’m also happy with the investment. In a year when the Nationals appear to climb towards the .500, they need a winner on the roster. Max Scherzer is the very definition of a winner. He is one of the biggest competitors in baseball history, and the Nationals need a tone setter.
The prices for Trevor Williams, Kyle Finnegan and Amed Rosario were roughly the same as the Scherzer. I certainly can’t, so why don’t you really tell me with a straight face that you’d prefer it to Mad Max, even at this point in his career?
Washington Nationals fans deserve to cheer after years of bad roster. Can you really go out and try to get back the franchise’s best players and end his career where he has his best season? Scherzer is still excellent when he is on the mound and is a player of the heart and soul.
If my favorite player was on the mound, I know I’d be more willing to nurture the money I needed to go to the NATS game. It should not be part of the front office calculus, but Max is a better player than Trevor Williams. Why can’t they put an extra distance and reclaim the franchise legend that’s still a little more left in the tank?
