House Republicans pass Trump’s budget bill slightly

President Donald Trump has promoted the House of Representatives passing the funding bill to keep the government running, labeling it as a “big victory” for America.
The House passed funding measures Tuesday evening, with margins of 217 to 213, primarily along the party line. The law is now heading towards the Senate, and lawmakers must either pass the action before Friday or face a partial government shutdown.
“The Republicans and America’s big victory tonight,” Trump said Tuesday night in the Social Post of Truth. “Congratulations everyone!”

The Funding Bill is almost extending the level of funding approved in 2024 as part of the House’s continued resolution (CR) until September 30th.
However, it includes additional $8 billion in defense spending, $6 billion in healthcare for veterans, and nearly $1 billion in funding to help immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) deportation. The measure cuts $13 billion in non-defensive spending.
Rep. Thomas Massey (R-Ky.) broke with a Republican and voted against the measure Tuesday evening, but D-Maine Rep. Jared Golden also split with his party and voted in favor of the measure.
Meanwhile, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY.) said he plans to vote against the Senate action, claiming it is not sufficient to curb government spending. As a result, the bill will require support from at least eight Democrats to pass the 60-vote threshold.

White House spokesman Caroline Leavitt told reporters Tuesday that Trump urged all Republicans to vote for the ongoing resolution, and that opposing it would stall the progress the Trump administration has made so far.

“He encourages all Republicans to vote “Yes” for this clean CR. This will freeze funds at the current level and prevent Democrats from blocking the much-anticipated government shutdown,” Leavitt said Tuesday. “This vote against CR will hurt Americans and kill the incredible momentum President Trump has built over the past 51 days.”
The House Rules Committee passed the law Monday evening.
