On Sunday, “Shogun” star Hiroyuki Sanada made an appearance on the red carpet at the 2024 Emmy Awards, ahead of what could be a big night for the series.
Extra’s Billy Bush spoke with Hiroyuki to get his reaction to being named a front-runner for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
Hiroyuki said he was “very happy” to be nominated and “looks forward to having fun with the other nominees.”
He will be competing in the category against Idris Elba, Gary Oldman, Donald Glover, Dominic West and Walter Goggins.
Sanada was “thrilled” to be reunited with his co-stars, including Sawai, who had been partying all weekend at the Emmy Awards pre-party!
Hiroyuki also spoke about the courage of his character, Toranaga, in trying to stop the war and build peace, and the message the show wants to convey to the modern world.
He said: “He won with courage, he built an era of peace, he stopped the war. That was his intention. So I love the sacrifice, but it’s sad that everyone knows the meaning of their life.”
On the message he hopes people take away from watching the show, he said: “It’s a great team, East meets West. Working together, we can create a better future together.”
