In Peter Jackson’s film adaptations of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Cate Blanchett plays Galadriel. If you recall, she’s the powerful, somewhat fearsome elf who aids Frodo in his journey to destroy the ring. She resists the temptation to take the powerful ring when Frodo offers it to her – no easy feat, as you’ll find out in the Amazon Prime series The Rings of Power.

Elves in the series are immortal, and here we meet a much younger version of Galadriel (played by Morphys Clarke). In the debut season, the character is portrayed as a great warrior determined to avenge the death of her brother, who was killed fighting Sauron and his minions. Galadriel pursues Sauron, who has disappeared in Middle-earth. However, after season 1, the powerful elf angered some JRR Tolkien fans. She was not satisfied with her character’s portrayal and faced intense criticism on social media, which Clarke claimed she was not prepared for.

In an interview with Elle magazine, the Ring of Power actor said, “When season one started, I was totally unprepared. [anyone] She can write messages on Instagram and has a really nice side to her.” According to her, the negativity directed at her “mostly comes from men.”

Clark added, “Some people didn’t necessarily like her, others did. She takes up space and is unapologetic. I didn’t want her to behave like a human woman who’s been taught not to be aggressive.”

Clarke is currently set to return for the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Power of the Ring, with the first three episodes set to premiere on Amazon Prime on August 29.
