Seafood and Cooking Contest

The annual Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off is coming to Monroe for the first time, with 12 chefs competing to be crowned Louisiana Seafood King or Queen.

Each chef will have one hour to prepare a Louisiana seafood dish and present it to the judges. Sullivan Zandt, who was born and raised in Lafayette and is executive chef and one of the founders of a restaurant in downtown Lafayette, will compete for the Louisiana Seafood Crown. The winner of LASCO will represent Louisiana at the Great American Seafood Cook-Off (GASCO) on Saturday, August 3, at the Ernest M. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

Alexandrian author M.E. Neville wrote a fictional book "Leo's War" It's based on a true story she heard as a child about her uncle who invented the helicopter.

Not many people know that the first practical helicopter was invented by a man in Alexandria. His name was Leo Ortego, the uncle of Alexandria writer M.E. Neville, who wrote “Leo’s War” based on stories his uncle told him as a child.

New developments are happening at G-Unit Studios in Shreveport. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson posted a preview of G-Unit Studios on his Facebook page on May 30th.

The steps of Shreveport’s Government Plaza were buzzing with excitement when city council members and Jackson gathered in April to symbolically sign the lease for the former Millennium Studios. This revitalization of Millennium Studios is expected to have a knock-on effect on job creation, attract talent to the area and contribute to Shreveport’s overall economic recovery.
