Throughout the night from Thursday, October 10th to Friday, October 11th, the Northern Lights could be seen as far south as Florida and even in light-polluted urban areas like New York City. Pink, purple, red, and green lights could be seen in these areas that are normally invisible due to intense (G4) geomagnetic storms. NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center monitored a strong X-class solar flare and associated coronal mass ejection (CME) that began on October 8th.
