Most parts of the human body regenerate over time. Bones are renewed every 10 years, and the lining of the stomach is renewed every few days. And you can also choose to update yourself. Who you are today doesn’t have to be who you will be next year.

The start of a new year is always an opportunity. It’s a new beginning, a new chapter, a new chance to do things right. Why not take advantage of such a moment?

Some people may say that it is bad to make resolutions because no one will abide by them. But that’s not true.

John Norcross, a professor at the University of Scranton, is an author on change and an expert on New Year’s resolutions. According to him, 40% of people are still continuing to make resolutions even though the resolution period has been extended to six months. Additionally, another study shows that if you make the same resolution three years in a row, you’re more likely to actually make it happen.

The most popular resolutions each year are to get your finances in order, get healthy, improve your marriage, break bad habits, and grow closer to God. Many of these resolutions focus on individuals.

And some say this is another reason not to make a resolution. It is a mistake to make resolutions by focusing on yourself and not on others. This kind of binary thinking is of no use to anyone.

This is my New Year’s resolution for this year. Stop thinking about one or the other and start thinking about both. Why couldn’t I make a resolution to focus on my own life and how I can help others? Both can certainly happen. This simple change in mindset can have an amazing impact on your life in the new year.

You can focus on yourself or you can focus on others. If you focus on being healthier, you will have more energy and be a better parent to your children. With better health, you may live longer and help more people.

Some might say that goals are better than resolutions. A goal refers to a specific accomplishment by a specific date. A resolution, on the other hand, is a commitment made indefinitely. But a solution is really just a goal. The rest is just semantics.

What reasonably successful organization doesn’t evaluate every year? Successful organizations are committed to evaluation and innovation. They look at their age and think about where they are strong and where they are weak. They are looking at new opportunities. These define the changes that need to be made.

Why don’t individuals do the same? Evaluate yourself. Look at what worked and what didn’t. Think about where you need to make positive changes in your life.

Maybe you already have one. You know what you want to do or do more of. I know what I don’t want to do or stop doing. After evaluation, decide on a solution.

The new year is a great opportunity for a fresh start. This is an exciting new chapter of your life yet to be written. It is wise to take advantage of it. If you’re feeling unsatisfied and frustrated at the end of this new year, it’s time to make a resolution.

Because at the beginning of the year you were given a great opportunity to do something positive in your life, and you passed. I hope that doesn’t happen.

Even after evaluation and resolution, the process is not over. In fact, it’s just getting started. Diligence is required. Success is about working hard until you achieve your resolutions. Many people have hopes and aspirations for many things that never happen because they are not diligent enough to carry them out.

And understand that there will be setbacks. When you try something new, there’s always a chance you’ll be sidetracked or opposed. Thinking a solution is easy to achieve can lead to failure. Sometimes you might encounter a situation you weren’t expecting or something that you weren’t prepared for and you might get a little frustrated.

Some might say that goals are better than resolutions. A goal refers to a specific accomplishment by a specific date. A resolution, on the other hand, is a commitment made indefinitely. But a solution is really just a goal. The rest is just semantics.

Being sick and not exercising for a week can ruin your resolution to get healthy. Then, when you get back to work, your co-worker brings you their famous triple fudge brownie, and you devour it. You just experienced a setback and now you need to bounce back. I can do it.

Everyone has setbacks. No one achieves their goals without some challenges along the way. There is no reason to stop or give up on what you set out to do.
