Michael Keaton returns to the role of Beetlejuice 35 years later in ‘Beetlejuice!’
He sat down with “Extra’s” Tommy Didario in New York to talk about how much fun it was to step back into the character’s shoes, calling it “fun and easy.” Michael revealed, “After the first day, we got it, and we were in.”
Tommy asked what makes Beetlejuice so magical, and Keaton explained, “There’s nothing to compare it to. He’s human and he’s not human. There are no rules, you can’t compare that character to anything. I can’t, so it gives you a kind of freedom to act crazy.”
Regarding making the sequel, Michael said he “felt pressure to not screw it up,” adding that he hopes audiences have “a damn good time.”
Didario asked if it felt like no time had passed since he reunited with Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, to which Michael replied, “Almost. I love them so much.”
As for new addition Jenna Ortega, Tommy asked if she’s integrated quickly into the family, to which Michael replied, “She’s a perfect fit. She’s great at this.”
