Pecan: Malaysia is committed to attracting investment in the electric vehicle (EV) industry and achieving a national target of 15% of the total industry volume (TIV) by 2030 with electric vehicles including hybrids (xEV) .

Minister of International Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the country is ready to reach its goal of making xEVs 38% of the country’s TIV by 2040.

“Regarding charging infrastructure, the government aims to provide at least 10,000 public charging stations by 2025.”

The government is prioritizing the development of the EV ecosystem, and the Department of City and National Planning of the Ministry of Local Government Development is also drafting a circular to expedite the approval process for charging stations at the local government level, he added. .

“MITI also welcomes continued support from the industry for the domestic production of EVs and their critical components.

“The ministry has also proposed attractive incentive packages to promote the development of the EV ecosystem,” said Tengku Zafrul.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference after the event, the minister said the target of 15% of TIV for EVs by 2030 can be achieved through technological advances, which will also help bring down the price of EVs.
