President Donald Trump’s Labor Secretary candidate, Lori Chavez Deremar, went past Thursday’s final procedural vote and won the final confirmation vote next week.
She is now one step closer to becoming a secretary to the Department of Labor and will face a final vote on Monday.
She recently gained bipartisan support for major Senate committees on healthcare, education, labor and pensions (help). There was initially uncertainty whether her appointment would be reported favorably as Senator Rand Paul promised to oppose her.

In an earlier statement, which announced her support before the committee voted, Hassan said, “The Department of Labor plays an integral role in supporting workers and small businesses alike, and after hearing important support from members, including members of the New Hampshire labor union, I will support Chavez Deremar’s appointment as Secretary of Labor.”

During her hearing, Chavez Deremar was questioned about his past support for the controversy to protect the right to organizing, which would effectively kill state-level laws that effectively kill workers and workers who require them to pay union membership fees as a condition of employment. Republicans have long opposed to overturning such rights of labor laws at the state level.
