LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) – The City of Long Beach and the Mississippi Coastal Plain Land Trust are celebrating the purchase of 32 acres of undeveloped coastal land for $1.9 million.
“We’re excited to manage this land as an urban forest that’s open to the public, and we plan to open it from dawn to dusk so residents can enjoy nature in peace. We plan to do some minor restoration work in late 2025 to remove invasive vegetation,” said Sarah Giese, executive director of the Mississippi Land Trust.
The purchase was made possible through financial support from the Angela J. Bowen Conservation Foundation.
Mayor Bass said he is grateful to the private landowners who worked with the Mississippi Coastal Plain Land Trust to make this happen.
The developers and owners say they will install signs along Highway 90 on Monday, July 29, and open the trail to the public.
