Bangalore, July 20: KSRTC managing director Anbu Kumar said the 500 buses that have traveled 10 rack kilometers have been refurbished and look like new.

“The price of a new bus is around Rs 40 lakh. Our staff is refurbishing old buses at a cost of Rs 3 per bus. The buses are also new.

Mr. Abe describes the criteria for selecting buses for retrofitting: Once a bus is selected, that chassis is completely removed. If the chassis is worn, it will be repaired. Every part has been modified from the seats to the windows. The exterior of the bus is also reproduced.

“Most of the buses will have the same engine. We will update the engine only when it is necessary. But the bus will be out of service 15 years after refurbishment. This way companies can save billions of rupees. Various depots are competing in bus refurbishment,” he said.
