Kristen Bell and Adam Brody spoke with Extra’s Melvin Robert about their new romantic comedy series, Nobody Wants This, in which the two play a romantic couple between an atheist podcaster and a recently single rabbi.
Bell also reflected on the 20th anniversary of “Veronica Mars,” saying, “I’m so grateful for this project. It helped me discover who I am…it helped me discover my flow as a performer.”
She added: “It was also the hardest job I’ve ever had. This was before the union had any formal rules in place, and we were there 17 hours a day… It was a very hard, physically demanding shoot.”
Speaking about “Nobody Wants This,” Kristen also shared why she knew Adam was the right guy to play her love interest.
“I said it had to be Brody, because this character had to be so compelling, almost annoyingly compelling, to pull off the role. Thankfully, we were able to convince him to play the part and I’m really, really pleased,” she said.
Bell praised his acting, saying, “When I’m working with Adam, it doesn’t feel like it’s scripted. It feels like it’s happening in the moment, and that’s something you don’t get with a lot of other people. That’s why I love working with Adam.”
Brody also had kind words for her, saying, “Kristen’s attitude and warmth…permeates the set and it’s been a pleasure working with her.”
Kristen and Adam have worked together before, and he fondly reminisced about the “risky” love scene they did in House of Lies while Kristen was pregnant.
“I was eight months pregnant and weighed 45 pounds,” Bell recalled, with Brody adding, “There were sex scenes, but I wasn’t playing a pregnant woman.”
“Oh no,” she joked, adding that she was in a “shaky position” at times.
How did they manage to do that? “We had a stand-in for her in the wide shot,” Adam revealed.
Adam said it was actually more “awkward” because he and the stand-in didn’t know each other.
“Nobody Wants This” will be available on Netflix on September 26th.
