The amount of flies gathering around the food at Lookout Cay was a hot topic when I reviewed lunch, so the good news for future cruise passengers is that the menu was excellent and I really liked what I tried.

Like Castaway Cay, there are three places to enjoy lunch: True-True BBQ, True-True Too BBQ, and Serenity Bay BBQ, all located in the adults-only area. All of Lookout Cay’s establishments are close to one another, making it easy to visit each dining location if you want to, although – spoiler alert – the menu is the same.

You’ll find similar aspects near both Beach BBQ Burger And that Flavourful fish A buffet section, including potato salad, fresh fruit, coleslaw, grilled pineapple and black bean salad, tomato and shallot salad, and more.

Where are we heading? Flavourful fish In the section, you can purchase fresh grilled snapper Bahamian style marinated in lime and ginger, and grilled salmon with pineapple salsa. Both fish tasted pretty similar to what’s served at Castaway Cay. The side menu was quite different, though: pickled vegetables, yucca fries, grilled corn, broccoli, etc. The assortment of fresh sides was a nice change.

The highlights for me were Lookout Cay’s unique dishes – fried plantains, fried okra, Bahamian pigeon peas, seafood or chicken with rice – all delicious and a great addition to the “regular” BBQ dishes and cuisine available on board.

The rice dish was similar to paella but slightly lacked the same spices.

As always, there are plenty of options for everyone to enjoy, including grilled hot dogs with chili and sauerkraut, cheeseburgers, spicy fried chicken sandwiches on brioche buns, and of course fries. As you can see, these items were pretty much devoured by late afternoon.

Also, Barbecue ribs and rotisserie chickenI had the ribs, both of which were flavorful and tender. I would have loved to have tried the rotisserie chicken, but it was one of the dishes with the most flies. My loss was their gain, I guess.

Each barbecue location will have a vegetarian section with dishes such as plant-based Island Curry, Bahamian pigeon peas and rice, fried okra, French fries and grilled corn.

The BBQ area at Serenity Bay was quite small, including the buffet area and seating, and we felt it took away a bit of the charm that Serenity Bay at Castaway Cay has.

Overall, the atmosphere is similar to a theme park, but in many ways it’s easier to navigate, and the covered seating areas are spacious and well-shaded, and you can also take a moment to admire the canopy artwork inspired by Eleuthera’s nature. There are 10 similar seating areas across the island.

We were on a preview cruise for the Disney Magic, so it was the first time the crew came to the island and prepared lunch for us. That being said, I think the trouble we experienced was due to the cruise being a preview.

Don’t let that stop you from enjoying this new Disney destination – the menu was amazing and the views couldn’t have been better!
