“Here’s a PSA,” Andy began, lifting the back of a plain, light-colored phone case.
“I always take this phone with me in the shower so I can listen to music while I’m showering,” she explained.
Then she flipped it over, revealing a shocking sight with a black mold-like layer inside.

Should I leave my phone in the bathroom while taking a shower?
Leaving your phone in the bathroom while showering can encourage mold growth as the high humidity from the steam creates a perfect environment for mold spores to grow. This risk is further increased if moisture gets trapped in the crevices of your phone and the device is not properly cleaned.
Additionally, prolonged exposure to steam or moisture can damage your phone’s internal components. Waterproof or water-resistant cell phones also run the risk of being damaged by long-term use.
This discovery left people in disbelief.
Commenters were shocked to discover that there was mold growing on the inside of the phone case. Some people claimed that because they clean their phones regularly, this never happened to them while taking a shower while holding their phones in the bathroom.
A commenter shared, “That never happened.” “I take my phone out of its case and wipe it about once a month, so maybe that helps??”
“We don’t do that,” lamented another.
“I wipe down my phone and AirPods every night with alcohol wipes. I’m like, oh my god,” said another.
