Created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, Black Summer is an American drama and spin-off of Z Nation. The first season of the series consisted of eight episodes and debuted on Netflix on April 11, 2019.
In November 2019, the network renewed the show for a second season, and Netflix released an eight-episode sequel on June 17, 2021. The Asylum, the same production company behind Z Nation, produced Black Summer. John Hyams primarily wrote and directed the series.
