This year, Apple plans to bring the tetraprism telephoto lens, previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, to both iPhone 16 Pro models, and a recent report out of South Korea suggests that Apple will initially rely on the same supplier as in 2023 for the necessary folding zoom module.

According to a report from The Elec, LG Innotek will supply modules for the first batch of iPhone 16 Pro models due to be released next month.
The telephoto camera uses folded glass under the lens, a technology Apple calls Tetraprism. This innovative structure reflects light four times, extending the focal length to 120mm. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max offer 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom capabilities.
Apple has built 3D sensor-shift optical image stabilization into the Pro Max’s telephoto lens, which allows for movement in three dimensions and twice as many micro-adjustments as the previous model, ensuring sharp images even at maximum zoom.
Once the initial inventory runs out in the fourth quarter, Apple is expected to outsource production of folding zoom modules to its second-tier suppliers Foxconn and Cowell to cut costs, and Sharp is not expected to supply camera modules for iPhones scheduled for release this year.
There is speculation that Apple will offer the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in a base storage capacity of 256GB, removing the 128GB entry-level option from the smaller Pro models for the first time.
Apple is expected to raise the base storage of the next iPhone 16 Pro to 256GB, matching the minimum storage capacity of the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max. The starting price for Apple’s smaller Pro model will remain at $999.
