Democratic Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who is running for the U.S. Senate this term, recently told donors that Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is “behind the scenes” in key battleground states, according to reports. I warned them.

“In places like Michigan, along the Kamala Harris I’m not feeling the best right now because of the situation I’m in.”

“We’re putting her in the water with our vote,” Slotkin added, according to audio obtained from the event by Axios.

According to the latest polls, former President Donald Trump is closing in on Harris in the key battleground states of Michigan and neighboring Wisconsin. A poll conducted this week by The New York Times and Siena College found that Harris had 48% support among likely Michigan voters, compared to 47% for Trump. In effect, the two were tied within the poll’s margin of error.

A poll of Great Lakes voters released last week by USA TODAY and Suffolk University found Harris leading Trump by three points. The poll had a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

Michigan is once again a key battleground state this year, with Harris and Trump campaigning not only in the state but also in other key states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia and Wisconsin.

The Axios article pointed out that if Trump can secure votes from the southern Sunbelt states, he only needs to win Michigan, Wisconsin, or Pennsylvania to declare victory. Meanwhile, Harris’ easiest path to victory is to lock down Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

Trump won Michigan in the 2016 election against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by a margin of 0.23 percentage points. President Biden faced off against President Trump in 2020 and won the state by a margin of 2.78%.

Slotkin, who has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019, announced his bid for the Senate last year after Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow said she would not seek reelection. Her statement that Harris was “underwater” in Michigan may have been campaign rhetoric to raise donations, but Fox News Digital asked for additional comment on campaign events. The camp did not immediately respond to the inquiry.
