The Fond du Lac community is rallying around Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office K9 Iroh, who was critically injured in an Oct. 14 shooting.

The Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office K9 program is 100% donor-funded, so several local businesses raise money for the dogs’ veterinary costs.

Local artist Mindy Lightner, owner of Wall Art by Mindy, creates paintings of Iroh and sells prints to raise funds. Rocky Rococo, a pizza and pasta restaurant, will be holding a fundraiser for him on November 7th and will donate a portion of the proceeds to his K9 program. And Sacher Funeral Home is hosting a fundraiser called “Pause for Paws” Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cars can park in the lot, and staff will collect donations and hand out hot cocoa and candy.

Dawn Nelson, director of Zacher Funeral Home, said she has had a close relationship with the sheriff’s office and police department for years and was shocked to hear of Iroh’s injuries.

They hope Thursday’s fundraiser will help Airo as he continues his recovery.

“So many people support great canine hero stories,” Nelson said. “It’s so nice to see him progress and do well. We all watch it, so we text each other at night like, ‘Did you see the Iroh update?’ Because we’re all so excited about this and so proud of him. And I think we’re all really proud to have him as part of our community. ”

Donations will be accepted in the form of cash or check, and Nelson said the event will be held rain or shine.
