Dalton Trustee Tammy Brown said she was excited to hear that federal authorities were monitoring the area.
“For months and months and months, we’ve been begging for someone to come out here and actually investigate what’s really going on here,” Brown said.
The village of Dalton voted last week to hire former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot as a “special agent” to investigate Henyard’s conduct.
This came after Henyard vetoed the board’s request to open a federal investigation into the alleged misuse of funds.
Lightfoot is being paid $400 an hour to gather information about Henyard’s alleged spending and financial mismanagement, as well as “any state or federal violations.”
In early April, Henyard made headlines for being vilified by local Dolton residents, and this Tuesday she was similarly skewered by Thornton residents at a town hall meeting. “Everyone wants to continue to be a show and not show too many facts about what’s really going on in our town,” she responded.
