Over the past two months, the AI company has implemented function-call functionality within its large-scale language models (LLMs), launched an application programming interface (API) for developers, and tested complementary versions of its AI models. It is said that
According to recent reports, the company is preparing to compete with OpenAI by developing applications like ChatGPT. The Wall Street Journal indicated that Musk intends to establish Grok AI as an independent product. Sources familiar with the situation suggest that xAI may soon announce a standalone chatbot application for Grok, similar to ChatGPT.
At this time, access to Grok AI is limited to X (formerly Twitter) users with X Premium and Premium+ subscriptions. Recent reports also indicate that xAI is considering launching a free version of its AI models in conjunction with the introduction of a standalone app.
These developments, along with developer APIs, reflect Musk’s desire to generate new revenue streams through his AI efforts. Notably, to attract developers, the company also introduced incentives in the form of free tokens. The overarching goal appears to be to make Grok available to a wider audience and to allow other software and applications to take advantage of its features.
The WSJ report further noted that Musk’s broader objective is to challenge OpenAI and offer its products and services as a reliable alternative in all areas where ChatGPT operates.

However, it is important to note that Grok currently lacks several features such as native image generation, voice support, and agent AI capabilities. These features are already offered by major competitors such as Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft.
